Fraudulent Phone Call Scams

In recent weeks, we’ve been made aware of fraudulent phone calls being placed to customers within our affiliate branch network and to non-customers as well.  The fraudsters are posing as employees of the bank and even spoofing our Express Line Phone number, 800-555-6895, on the Caller ID.  The scammers may claim there have been fraudulent transactions or activity on the customer’s account and make other bogus claims, all to gain the account information from the customer.

Please remember, First Savings Bank will never ask for your personal or account information.  If you receive one of these calls, please be extra cautious, hang up and contact your local branch right away to let us know.  Some helpful tips to keep in mind are listed below.

How to Protect Yourself from Phone Call Scams
1. Be skeptical of urgency.
Scammers try to get you to react before you think. If someone says you must “act now,” hang up.
2. Never rely on Caller ID.
Fraudsters can make any number, including the bank’s, appear on your screen.
3. Never share sensitive information.
A real bank will never ask for:
• Social Security numbers
• Account numbers
• Passwords
• PINs
• One time login codes
If someone calls and asks for this information, end the call immediately.
4. Hang up and call us directly.
If you’re unsure whether a call is legitimate, hang up and call your local branch.

What to Do if You Shared Information
If you believe you may have responded to a fraudulent call:
1. Visit IdentityTheft.gov
Get step by step guidance tailored to the information you shared.
2. Change any passwords you may have given out.
3. Contact your local branch.
We will help secure your accounts and monitor for suspicious activity.
4. If you lost money, file a police report.
5. Report the scam to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC)
Online at ReportFraud.ftc.gov or by phone at 1 877 FTC HELP (382 4357).

Remember: Your Bank Will Never Ask That
Every day, individuals lose money to phone, email, and text-based scams. Knowing what your bank will never ask is the best defense. If you ever receive a suspicious phone call, even if it appears to be from a legitimate number, please hang up and reach out to us directly.
